LiCONiC is proud to be a supplier of automated sample storage solutions for the Biobank of MLL (Münchner Leukämielabor) GmbH – leading institution in Germany for leukemia diagnostics and research. Our customer receives every year more than 75 000 samples and stores approximately 1,2 million specimens collected in the last 13 years.
MLL decided to implement first STC System from LICONIC back in 2015 but in order to robotically handle growing sample collection another sibling STC system was installed in 2018. Both systems operate in -80°C environment and store tubes with 2D barcodes uniquely assigned to a patient which allows samples to be automatically retrieved as requested.

SLAS 2019 Washington DC, USAJanuary 2019Liconic once again introduces a first at SLAS showing the new STX66 is the second smallest member of the STX line. The 66 MTP capacity makes it perfectly suitable of small-scale integration, highly miniaturized applications or short/long time incubation assays. Well received, it bridges the gap between the STX 44 and STX 110. We had an excellent show with fantastic meetings with our customers and integrator partners. A great way to kick off 2019!
LiCONiC at AABB Meeting in Boston, MA – USAOctober 2018For the second time LICONIC took part in the American Association of Blood Banks Congress which took place this time in Boston, Massachusetts. Our automated plasma store – HibernX was in the focus of interest as United States is the largest manufacturer of Fresh Frozen Plasma in the world.
LICONIC team had a number of interesting discussions about the future of storage automation with blood bankers and industry leaders participating in the meeting. American congresses usually gather not only local professionals but also people from the whole globe. This time Middle East and Asia had a strong representation among visitors at our booth. We are looking forward to meet our prospects met in Boston again at their locations and change plans into real projects.
Inauguration of the largest gene samples cryostorage system in Germany.September 2018The largest gene samples cryostorage system in Germany was inaugurated in The Helmholtz Zentrum München.
21 million samples of blood, urine or saliva are collected in the "Nako Biorepository". Samples are stored in huge, fully automated tanks frozen at -80 or -180°C. So far there are 11 million and stored during last 5 years.
The origin of this project takes place in NAKO Health Study, the largest long-term population study in Germany. Study, which is funded by the federal government and research institutions is trying to find an answer to a question which factors contribute to the development of a certain disease. Until mid 2019, 200 000 Germans aged 20-69 will be medically examined including using a whole-body MRI.
That's why the biorepository in Munich was created. Around two-thirds of all biosamples in the NAKO study are to be stored here for thirty years. The new building in Munich has two storage systems. First – a square, about 5 meters long freezer in which 2.7 million samples can be stored at -80. Second one consisting of large hall 23 nitrogen tanks is located in a new building. Each of them can accommodate 1 million biosamples – stored at -180°C. The whole sampling refrigerator will be run only by a computer system.
LiCONiC at DGTI Congress in Luebeck - GermanySeptember 2018German Society for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology (Deutschen Gesellschaft für Transfusionsmedizin und Immunhämatologie – DGTI) is the leading organization which promotes transfusion medicine and acts as an international “umbrella company” in German speaking countries. With more than 1000 organizational members DGTI attracts industry leaders to its scientific congress with industrial fair. LICONIC decided to join this event for the first time with strong representation from local German office and headquarters from Liechtenstein. BiOLiX FAB Line is now available as first of its kind hybrid system with multiple temperature storage spaces within one unit.August 2018Biobanks have sometimes collections that need different storage conditions and at the same time face space constrains. As a solution to those requirements and limitations LiCONiC developed the system that incorporates two or more chambers with independent temperature setpoints but sharing same robotic handling assembly and built into one unit.
BiOLiX FAB as a hybrid version offers exactly the same set of features and advantages as mono temperature models adding next level of flexibility to the well know product line challenging competition in the unprecedented way.
